- One of the very basic dimensions of effective communication is the knowledge and use of proper language for a specific purpose.
- The customer is king ought to be saluted and the poor to be simply shown the door.
- Human beings are poor communicators.
Nature and process of communication
- For communication to be effective, there has to be both information and meaning. And meaning requires communication.
- Urgent means serious or immediate.
- Communication is interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information, by speech, writing, or signs.
- Use proper type of adverbs at proper place like “Now your dream home is just a step away from being a reality.
- Who? , says what? , on which channel? , to whom? , with what effect? , is process of communication.
- Barriers to communication:- noise, lack of planning, wrong assumptions, cultural barriers, socio-psychological barriers, emotions, selective perception, information overload, poor listening, time and distance, cultural barriers, socio-psychological barriers, emotions, selective perception, information overload, poor listening, time and distance.
Sender:- lack of planning, undefined about the purpose of communication, choice of wrong language and channel.
Receiver:- poor listening, inattention, mistrust, lack of interest and trust. - The object which excite our five sense perception organs-eyes, ears, nose, tongue (taste), flesh (touch) are called signs.
- For receiver first of all receive, understand, accept, use and give a feedback.
- Communication is successful when:-
-the message is properly understood
-the purpose of the sender is fulfilled
-the sender and receiver of the message remain linked through feedback. - In oral communication the key element that creates strong impression is “confidence”.
- Spoken language should consist of simple words.
- Be sure that we express ourselves clearly, we should use accurate and familiar words with proper intonation, stresses, and pauses.
- It is essential that oral presentations, discussions, or dialogues should be as far as possible planned, and structured.
- Check that you have given complete information to receiver.
- Try to use single words. Avoid repetitive words.
- In oral communication passive voice is avoided. Active voice verbs reflect force and action. They also sound and more natural and direct.
- Take care of grammatical errors-correctness.
eg:- He said to me that I will surely go there.
He told me that he would surely go there. - Avoid the words which are insulting or hurtful to the listener.
- We should wait for our chance to speak and when it is our turn to speak, we should speak with force and clarity-courtesy.
- Our tone should reflect our respect for our listener.
- Realize how we see ourselves is the first step to enhance our ability to communicate.
- Don’t copy the styles of other if you want to improve your personality. Try to work yourself.
- Some people are so perfect in projecting images of themselves to others that the real person is never displayed.
- If we have no information or answer or are unwilling to answer or discuss any particular question, we should frankly express our inability to answer.
