Abstract
The term "grid" refers to the system and applications that integrates and manage resources and services distributed across multiple control domains. In grid, enormous entites are connected to run their business smooth. But we need to focus on some security issues which takes place to manage our secured data. Security issues are majorly divided into three components:
Information Security: It is the most essential component where security needs are rising day by day. In Grid, there is communication between hosts and users, so whatever the information we send to each other must be in secured mode. If it is not protected, then all the users connected to grid, can access that data.
2. Secure Communication: When we send packets to different entities, there must be safe communication. Here, secure communication is divided into two parts:
a) Confidentally Issues: Indicates that all the data sent by host must be only received by correct recipients.
b) Integrity Issues: Indicats that all data received should only be sent by "legitimate" receivers.
Authentication Issues: Like any other resource sharing system, grid systems also require resource specific ans system specific authentication. Two issues related to it are:
a) VOL Level Systems: Provide credentials for the users to access the resources.
b) Resource Level Systems: Entitles users to access the resources based on the credentials presented by the users.
Service Issues: Since the Grid computing is new, there are no more service issues, but as time go by, the grid will become large and after few years this issue will be major part of security issues.
a) Quality-of-Service (QoS) Violation Issues: When you transmit data through various nodes, possibilities of dropping packets (data) are more or it can be delayed to rich at the destination.
b) Denial-of-Service (DoS) Issue: As there are lots of resources available in grid, some of them can be blocked by which any user can't yield his or her job (task or process) to any resource.
2) Infrastructure Related Issues:
A grid infrastructure consists of grid nodes and the communication network.
Host Security Issues:
a) Data protection: Whenever a host is affiliated to the grid, one of the chief concern is regarding the protection of the already existing data in the host. The host (sender) that yieds the records may be untrusted or unknown to the host running (receiver) job. To the host running the job, the job may well be a virus or worm which can demolish the system.
b) Job Starvation: It refers to a scenario where jobs originating locally are deprieved of resources by alien jobs scheduled on the host part of the grid.
Network Security Issues:
Access control and isolation are essential requirements for traffic flowing through the grid networks. Routing (transferring) of packets in networks based on routing tables is a specific network issue.
3. Management Related Issues
It is very essential as the grid is hetrogenous (collection of different) in nature and may abounds in multiple entities, elements, users, domains, policies, and stake holders.
Trust Management:
Trust is the multi-dimensional factor which depends on a host of different components like reputation of an entity, policies, and options about the entity.
a) The trust creation phase: It is done before any trusted group is formed, and it comprises mechanism to built trust functions and host policies.
b) Trust Negotiation: On the other hands is activated when a new untrusted system joins the current distributed system or group.
Monitoring
Data processing: The data processing stage processes and filters the data based on different policies and criteria from the data collected from the sensors.
Data transmission: It involves the transmission of collected and processed data to the different entities interested. Transmission involves sending data in a format understood by other parties over a transmission medium.
Data storage: There may be need for storage of gathered and processed data for future refernces which is carried out in the data storage.
Data transmission: Eventually, the data presentation stage presents the data in formats apprehend by the users.
