Open Access to Engineering

As we all know, in countty like India, literacy rate is very low than other countries, for this there are several reasons. But we have enormous manpower to overcome this strategies. So let see what our institutes are doing . . .

The live webcast project of IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Bombay, provides web based distance education solution for engineering aspirants and benefits those living in remote areas. The live webcast at Centre of Distance Education Programme (CDEEP) IIT Bombay has been started with the objective of providing quality education in the field of science and engineering, to any willing individual free of cost.

Why Distance Education?

If we focus on current scenario, nearly 5,00,000 students enroll in engineering studies. We can say it's nearly 2.5% of age group. But do you think, all get job after finishing their further studies? Well, only 25% comes out with job. The reason abaft is, the lack of quality education. Recollect your memories to 3 idiots movie. To overcome this limitation, IIT has brought a ray of hope which provides an execellent quality of education through distance learning programme. The course was initiated before eight years, which is fully controlled through satellite transmission. In January 2008, IIT Bombay signed MoU with the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) for free course where the data is totally unencrypted.

Any instution that has a Student Interactive Terminal (SIT) may receive the courses free of cost, but may not record without IITB's explicit approval. The user who has the Internet connection with 128 kbps speed, can access it easily. This project creates virtual class-room where you can discuss any topic with respective subject faculties through discussion forums, chat rooms . . .etc. All assignments, class notes, presentations are available.

The Pilot Phase

The project started with a pilot of 600 students, 32 faculties of different engineering colleges from the state of Gujarat. At the begining there were 5 crores who got benefit, but now over 100 crore. The Govt. college of Engineer Poona (COEPP) has accepted the courses of CDEEP IIT Bombay as plug in replacement for their regular courses.

So these is a big step by which students living in remote areas, can be beneficial and can exhibit their skills in front of the world.

Characteristics of a Good Programming Language

Till now there are many high level languages which are very popular, and there are others, which could not become so popular in-spite of being very powerful. There might be many reasons for the success of a language, but one obvious reason is the characteristics of the language. Several characteristics believed to be important with respect to making a programming language good are briefly discussed below. Simplicity A good programming language must be simple and easy to learn and use. For example, BASIC is liked by many programmers only because of its simplicity. Thus, a good programming language should provide a programmer with a clear, simple and unified set of concepts which can be easily grasped. It is also easy to develop and implement a compiler or an interpreter for a programming language that is simple. However, the power needed for the language should not be sacrificed for simplicity. The overall simplicity of a programming language strongly affects the readability of the pr...

Angular 4 and Firebase Authentication: Setup

If you have come to this article, it means you are keen to learn new technology and that too Firebase. I love Firebase because it provides all basic but important features of any web application. Take for example, authentication, which is cumbersome and risky if not implemented with utmost care. And when we have the integration of Angular and Firebase, it becomes a lot easier for a developer to build such crucial modules in less time with minimal efforts. In this article we will create a simple Angular application using Firebase. I am going ahead with the understanding that you know the benefits of Firebase and have little knowledge about it. There are plenty of posts out on the web if you are behind. Step 1: Install Angular CLI (if not installed). npm install -g angular-cli Step 2: Create new Angular 4 project. By default now angular CLI will create Angular 4 project so you need not fret. ng new firebase-authentication Step 3: Check whether the ne...
