1. Apprehend (catch): To catch and arrest someone who has not obeyed the law.

2. Confound: To confuse and very much surprise someone, so that they are unable to explain or deal with a situation.

3. Customary: Traditional
In my village, it is customary for a girl to take her mother’s name.
4. Decent: Socially acceptable or good
I thought he was a decent sort of person.
5. Sarcasm: The use of remarks which clearly mean the opposite of what he say, and which are made in order to hurt someone’s feelings to criticize something in a humorous way.

6. Amnesty: A decision by a government that allows political prisoners to be free.
Most political prisoners were freed under the terms of the amnesty.
7. Dismal: Sad and without hope

8. Debatable: Not clear, not certain, not fixed; possibly not true.
It’s a debatable whether our exams will finish on 25th March.
9. Protracted: Lasting for a long time or made to last longer.
A protracted discussion.
10. Proclaimed: To announce something publicly or officially, especially something positive.
Our one of the professors proclaimed that we will be having holidays in college from 14th March to 25th March.
11. Entitle: To give someone the right to do or have something; permit; allow
The employer is entitled to ask any question.
(to give name): To give a title to book, film, etc.
Her latest novel, entitled ‘The Myth’, is out of weel.
12. Deficient: Not good enough
His theory is deficient in several respects.
13. Palatable: Describes food or drink that has a pleasant taste.
A very palatable dish.
14. Demolish: To completely destroy a building, especially in order to use the land for something else.
A number of houses were demolished so that the supermarket could be built.
15. Despot: A person, especially a ruler, who has unlimited power over other people, and often uses it unfairly and cruelly.
An evil despot.
